1. Classification by Width

Carrier tape specifications vary based on the dimensions of the components being packaged.

• Standard Widths: Common industry sizes include 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, 24mm, 32mm, 44mm, and 56mm.

• Miniaturization Trend: With the increasing demand for smaller chips, carrier tape manufacturing has evolved toward high precision. We now offer ultra-narrow carrier tapes with a width of 4mm for micro-sized components.

2. Material Characteristics

Carrier tapes are primarily classified into two types: plastic (polymer) and paper. Embossed carrier tapes are predominantly made from plastic materials:

• PC (Polycarbonate): Known for its exceptional mechanical strength, high transparency, and superior dimensional stability. It offers a high glass transition temperature and excellent heat resistance.

• PS (Polystyrene): A cost-effective alternative with lower mechanical strength than PC. To enhance tensile strength, it is often manufactured as a three-layer composite sheet (e.g., PS/ABS/PS).

• PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): Offers mechanical strength comparable to PC, but its dimensional stability is slightly lower due to its crystalline structure.

• Others: Includes ABS, APET, and various paper or PE composite materials used for stamped carrier tapes.
