Cover tape is a critical component in electronic packaging. As a strip film used in conjunction with carrier tape, it is primarily designed to seal and protect SMD electronic components housed in the pockets of carrier tape.

Typically available in the form of transparent plastic film, it can cover integrated circuits, SMD inductors, transformers, capacitors, resistors, connectors, shielding cans and other SMD/SMT surface mount components. The base material of cover tape is mostly polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP) film, coated with different functional layers (such as antistatic layer and adhesive layer). Through pressure application or heating, cover tape can be firmly sealed to the surface of carrier tape, forming an enclosed space. This effectively protects the internal components from contamination, electrostatic damage and physical harm during transportation, storage and surface mounting processes.
